According to official data from the National Agency of Natural Resources, at the end of 2023, about 920 thousand tons of chrome ore were produced in this branch of the mining industry, mainly for export, or about 1.3% less than in 2022 when about 933 thousand were extracted. tone.

However, this decrease comes after a significant increase of 43.5% in production during 2022, compared to 2021. Regarding the production of this mineral during the last 10 years, the data shows that the largest amount was extracted in 2019 , with almost 1.3 million tons of mineral. The industry was then hit by the COVID 19 pandemic, only to begin recovery in 2022.

According to data from the National Agency of Natural Resources, 236 mining exploitation licenses were active in chrome mining activity in 2023, out of 249 licenses that were registered in 2022. Meanwhile, production activities are concentrated in Bulqiza with 120 active permits followed by Kukësi, Tropoja and Hasi.

According to AKBN, significant investments are made and continue to be made in the branch of the chrome mining industry, both in the exploitation of minerals and in the production of concentrate and ferrochrome.
