The agreement between Albania and Italy on the recognition of pensions was also approved in the Parliamentary Committee for European Affairs.

Olta Manjani, Deputy Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation:

"Through this agreement, the further commitment of the Italian government and the Albanian government to the further deepening of the very good diplomatic relations between them is expressed. Italy remains a very important economic and commercial partner for Albania. The draft law that we present today aims at an additional guarantee for the citizens of both our countries. The agreement guarantees that no citizen is left without contributions regardless of the place where he worked and lived".

This agreement has no additional cost but is focused on the contributions that the beneficiaries had. But which are the most difficult states that our country faces to negotiate the pension recognition scheme?

"We have sent to all countries to start negotiations. They are usually countries that have different systems of social security schemes. I would single out America, which has a different system from us, and if the moment comes to negotiate with them, it is assumed that it will be a little more difficult. Another country that we have sent requests for negotiations is France or England. We are waiting for negotiations like Spain, Denmark."

The agreement will apply to insurance for old age, disability, family pension (survivors), sickness and maternity benefit insurance and unemployment insurance. About 500,000 Albanians who have contributed to Italy for more than 30 years, as well as Italian citizens living in Albania, are expected to benefit from the agreement.
