The General Directorate of Customs has banned the activity of the company Bankers Petroleum Albania in the Patos-Marinza oil field, following a dispute over the payment of excise duty on oil thinner, a product used in the extraction and transportation of crude oil.
According to Customs, the company has avoided paying excise duties on this product, while Bankers Petroleum opposes the decision, arguing that excise duty should not be paid on the thinner since it is not consumed on the territory of Albania.
The company has announced that the situation directly affects over 420 of its employees and thousands more of subcontractors and business partners.
Bankers Petroleum, for its part, has filed a criminal complaint with SPAK and requests that all parties await court decisions before taking action, emphasizing that the excise tax issue is still in the legal process.
