With a total limit fund of about 7.3 billion ALL, the Albanian Road Authority has opened 4 tenders for works contracts and maintenance of national roads. The procedures include the 4 regions of the country, based on which the management of the road network is done, as the procedures are divided into lots, according to the road axes that will include the contract that will be concluded with the winning economic operator. Also, the tender documents specify that the duration of the contract will be 4 years.
The highest value is predicted for the Northern Region of Shkodër, with a limit fund of about 3 billion ALL, as the tender is divided into 15 different lots. Then comes the Central West Tirana Region, with 10 lots, with a total value of about 1.6 billion ALL and the third maintenance contract includes the Southern Gjirokastër region with a limit fund of about 1.5 billion ALL for 11 different axes that are intended to be maintained, while the the last is the Central East Korçë Region, with about 1.2 billion ALL.
The National Road Network consists of about 3,600 km of roads, while maintenance includes routine and periodic maintenance tasks. Routine maintenance consists of tasks that are necessary to maintain the operation of the road, such as repairing potholes, cleaning drains, sealing cracks, cutting vegetation, etc. Meanwhile, periodic maintenance consists of more expensive measures, in order to prevent road degradation, such as leveling, drainage, refilling, asphalto-concrete overlays, etc.
