Albania ranks 65th, out of 133 countries in total, in the "Global Knowledge Index" for 2023 and is rated with 47.1 points. Compared to 2022, it seems that Albania has improved not only in the ranking but also in the evaluation with points. During the year 2022, Albania was positioned in 68th place out of 132 countries in total and had accumulated 45.4 points. For this year, the index data show that Albania is below the world average in terms of points. The report states that our country is a moderate performer in terms of its knowledge infrastructure, but a positive aspect is its ranking in 8th place out of 28 countries with high human development, while a year ago it was ranked 20th out of 28 highly developed countries.

The "Global Knowledge Index", which is a publication supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), evaluates seven sub-indices that make up the overall report. These indicators are mainly related to pre-university and higher education, scientific research, information and communication, technology, economy, opportunities and the environment. "Scan Intel" has analyzed these indicators to understand where Albania has performed better or worse. Thus, in pre-university education Albania ranks 66th, while in higher education we rank 42nd. In terms of technology and communications, we are positioned in 66th place, while for training and technical education, Albania presents itself more negatively, being positioned in 113th place. For the economy we are ranked 104th, while in research and innovation we are ranked 53rd. So, from a general overview of the ranking of the main points, it turns out that our country is better positioned in terms of higher education and scientific research.

The general panorama shows that in the region the best performance is Serbia in 41st place, followed by Montenegro in 45th place. In 2023, the data show that Serbia has overtaken Montenegro in this ranking. North Macedonia follows 48th, followed by Albania and Bosnia Herzegovina in last place in the region.

At the global level, Switzerland and Finland are ranked in first place and Sweden in second and third place. On the other hand, countries such as Nigeria or Chad are ranked last.
