The Transparency Board has been fixing fuel prices for a long time, at the expense of Albanian consumers.
While a few days ago, the Competition Authority punished 4 flour import companies with a fine of 10 million new leks, since for almost 1 year all these together, as a cartel, fixed the price of the product in the market.
"We have a law today that fights cartels. So agreements between operators of a certain field, to fix the price, are prohibited by law.
But what is happening to us now? In a country where cartel agreements are prohibited by law, we have a Board. This board agrees and sets a high price, e.g. in the case of diesel, the price of 199 ALL per liter has been fixed for many days.
By fixing this price, all operators, despite the fact that someone may have the opportunity to lower it, but since they all have the price of 199 ALL, then all operators keep the price 199 ALL and in this way the consumer is harmed, because it does not benefit from competition, which it would have in a market with pure competition.
So the board today serves as a cartel agreement, something that is totally illegal. The 4 flour companies were penalized for this, as they had cartel agreements with each other, coordinating their activities at the expense of consumers.
But why did the board move? Our government, in order not to reduce taxes, decided to silence the citizens by saying: Here, I set up this board. But this is not at all what the citizens asked for. The board was set up as a candy to lie to the people, and as we speak today, it is doing us more harm.
