The holiday season is a time when most people expect to splurge a little. After all, you want to get all the perfect gifts to show your loved ones how much you care about them.
Moreover, with the ever-increasing presence of social networks in our lives. However, this year may be a little more complicated than in the past due to the increase in prices. Because, after all, the 'gift' we are all receiving, without asking for it, is inflation...

Foods top the list
The end of the year table cannot be imagined without traditional foods such as turkey, other meat products, salads, drinks, etc.
All of these are significantly more expensive this year. We recall that in November, inflation was estimated at 7.9%, where the main impact continues to be the increase in the price of food.
Although all purchases have already been made and we are only a few hours before the clinking of glasses on this last day of 2022, but from an observation in the market the prices of the products are as follows:
-Turkey, live weight was sold in markets for 1,200-1,500 ALL per kilogram, from 800-1,000 ALL last December. To this cost we also add the payment for people who slaughter and clean the birds in the cities. While chickens or turkeys sold in supermarkets are 20% cheaper.
- In the table products market, meat and dairy by-products have increased by almost 30% compared to last year. The price of products such as minced meat has almost doubled over the last two years, reaching the level of 1600 or 1700 ALL per kg.
- The price of sunflower oil has increased since last year, also spices, butter, onions.
- Sweets and panetones in supermarkets are 10% more expensive than last year
- Baklavaja, a favorite for Albanians at the end of the year, is 5-10% more expensive, due to the increase in the price of flour, butter, and nuts.
See you!
The holidays stimulate the economy from all aspects, encouraging the consumer spirit. The supply and demand for both goods and services increases around the end of the year because people want to celebrate and there is no holiday without shopping.
Marsi Simo, sociologist, explains to "Monitor" that the impact of commercialization has reached our country as well.
"Five years ago, photo sets with the same pajamas for the whole family, mass photos and videos with panetone or traveling to European cities were unimaginable. This trend has come from the commercialization of the year-end period.
The retailer has used Christmas and New Year to bring in extra sales. On the other hand, people have a tendency to brag during the holidays, especially with the widespread use of social platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok.
This often encourages impulsive, thoughtless, illogical purchases, often with credit cards, with consequences that will be faced in the coming months" - explains Ms. Simo./ Monitor
