Wastewater/Technology Obligations Businesses must install by early May

Until the month of May, all entities that carry out economic activities in coastal areas, as well as on the shores of lakes and rivers, and discharge polluted waters into washing waters must install their treatment and removal plants.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment have approved the rules that these entities must follow, related to the required standards, in order not to be penalized by the Task Force that will be set up for the control of theirs. According to the document published in the Official Gazette, the technology of the wastewater treatment plant must be that of active sludge treatment.

Meanwhile, this technology should also be implemented by entities that have septic tanks. Also, the regulation has also defined the allowed discharge values, which must be met by businesses that discharge waste water into wash water.

The document also defines the connection with the wastewater sewage system, as well as the steps to be followed by the entities in case of lack of sewage network in the area.

The obligation to install wastewater treatment and removal plants includes all types of entities, starting from accommodation structures, agrotourism, guesthouses, hotels, tourist complexes, bars, restaurants, etc.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, there are a total of 9,000 entities near the washing waters. Meanwhile, the Task Force, which will be set up to monitor the implementation of these obligations, will start field inspections in the first week of May, which coincides with the end of the 3-month deadline for the installation of plants, while in case of finding of violations will be able to impose fines up to the closure of the activity.
