Will safety at work increase? Inspectorate: Controls, digital system, but also

In order to reduce the number of accidents, increase safety at work and respect for the rights of employees, the government is expected to take a series of measures by significantly increasing controls. In the document of social policies for safety and health at work, the Ministry of Economy will place a number of sectors in its sieve.

"The most problematic sectors in case of accidents are construction, mining and electricity, gas, water. They are the most risky. Construction has a very large development and there was a low number of construction sites and while it has now developed in relation to accidents, we have a reduction and awareness in this sector. While in the mines, we coordinate the work for the inspections. For which further measures will be taken", Eda Beqiri from the Occupational Safety and Health Sector told A2 CNN.

Although accidents at work remain high, a number of sectors have taken measures to reduce their number. In 2023, 168 accidents at work were registered, 30 with fatal consequences. But in order to create an accurate register of accidents, the legislation will be aligned with that of the EU.

"We will adapt it to the Albanian legislation with the elements of the date, the place of the event, the cause of the accident, but they are not codified and we will adapt them according to the European statistics", continued Beqiri.

The Labor Inspectorate will also be responsible for reducing informality, especially in terms of wages, for which the measures that will be taken in case of violations have been determined.

"In cooperation with other structures and the order of the prime minister has been in our focus, it is difficult to identify but also requires an awareness campaign. Gray informality has been, is and will be under the attention of the Labor Inspectorate. For every case of violation of the labor legislation, I will come up with a measure of warning, fine, sanction, suspension of work", Beqiri emphasized.

To reduce informality, the government has undertaken a series of warning campaigns, while field inspections have already increased significantly.
