Banks in Albania earned over 300 million euros in the January-September period, as 2026 is shaping up to be another golden year for the financial sector.
Official data published by the Association of Banks shows that at the end of September 2026, the cumulative net profit of the 12 banks operating in the country reached around 27.4 billion lek or 301 million euros, increasing by over 5.2 percent compared to the same period last year.
Who are the "Giants" who are sharing the profit cake?
The market remains concentrated in a few large players, with the two main banks controlling more than half of all profits made in the country.
The National Commercial Bank is once again confirmed as the most profitable machine in the system. According to the data, BKT has collected a cumulative net profit of 101.67 million Euros (9.24 billion Lekë), accounting for 33.7% of the entire national profitability.
In second place is Raiffeisen Bank, whose profit for the first 9 months amounted to 61.34 million Euros (5.57 billion Lekë) or about 20.3% of the entire market.
OTP Albania consolidates as the third most profitable bank in the country with a net profit of 33.02 million Euros (3.0 billion Lekë). Meanwhile, Tirana Bank and the American Investment Bank close the top five, contributing respectively 26.63 million Euros (8.8%) and 25.17 million Euros (8.3%) of the market.
The system's assets reach a value of 26.7 billion euros.
This galloping expansion of profits is going in parallel with the growth of the overall volume of the sector. The total assets of the entire banking system touched the value of 26.79 billion Euros (2.43 trillion Lekë).
At the same time, deposits of citizens and businesses in banks have broken another historic ceiling, reaching 22.18 billion Euros (2.01 trillion Lekë).
Employment and branches increase
To cope with this massive volume of transactions and investments, banks have spared no expense in human resources and field outreach. The number of employees in the sector has increased to 8,007 employees, an increase of over 7 percent compared to the previous year.
Also, the physical branch network expanded to 447 points throughout the country, with BKT (62 branches), Credins (52 branches) and OTP Albania (50 branches) enjoying the greatest reach.
In conclusion, this 9-month period is proving that despite the strengthening of the Lek and geopolitical fluctuations, banks in Albania are functioning as a true financial machine, producing over 301 million Euros in net profit in just 9 months. ( Kapitali.al )
