The Democratic Party – The ship, the crew and the compass!

Considering the definition that political parties are a voluntary grouping of people with similar or identical ideologies, we naturally deduce that the objective of political groups remains the materialization of their doctrine through access to constitutional institutions. This logical premise often makes me see the parties as a ship whose coveted destination is power.

A captain, in addition to leadership skills, cannot do without three main elements: SHIP, CREW and COMPASS. Through this metaphorical fable, we can easily analyze the situation in the Democratic Party. The above three elements, in my view, are in the hands of three different persons.

The SHIP remains under the command of Lulzim Basha. For critics, he is not yet daring to venture out into the open sea, perhaps because the mast (the ship's central pillar) is still unrepaired by the infighting with supporters of the rival captain, Berisha. Bashan was abandoned by a large part of the crew. Perhaps, rightfully so. Sailors still feel fatigue and frustration. They have been wandering for more than 10 years, in the strong waves of consecutive losses. Ironically, the figure is the same as Odysseus, the character of Homer's epic poem, who took 10 years to return from the Trojan War to the Kingdom of Ithaca. We come again to Basha; He claims that his route, in the last decade, has always been influenced by Berisha. Basha intends to build a new crew. We have seen young sailors, but also old ones, who in the clash of the two captains, found the possibility of promotion. Will he make it?! Odysseus didn't give up. But his battle was epic. Basha wins only in case of metamorphosis.

The CREW overwhelmingly remains in the hands of Berisha. The doctor is undoubtedly the captain with the most experience among the democratic sailors, sending the latter to exotic destinations. Here I mean the victories, achievements, successes but also the sweet sins of power. Berisha brings to the memory of the sailors golden times. However, times have changed. Berisha can no longer sail in international waters, because of an order that comes from across the ocean!

The return of the doctor at the head of the crew of the Re-establishment brings to mind the return of Napoleon Bonaparte from the island of Elba. Neither Berisha nor Napoleon found it difficult to regain what they once had. But despite historical weight, sometimes time dulls instincts, circumstances change, strategies that were once genius no longer bring victory. Berisha, like Napoleon, risks heading towards Waterloo. However, no one can ask the doctor to withdraw. After all, we all live to fight another day.

THE COMPASS is in the hands of Gazmend Bardhi! He was promoted by the other two captains to senior management positions, but without ever being able to touch the wheel with his own hands, he was unable to enjoy the absolute support of the crew. Unsatisfied in Basha's undermanned ship, and not coming to terms with the idea that Berisha is the future, Bardhi has made the biggest political gamble of his life. He is trying to maneuver between the two, in the hope that Basha and Berisha will both fall to the carpet from the collision. Gazmend Bardhi's advantage is the open channel with the American and European continents, the moral card that he has always thought of the interest of other sailors and the fact that he has never had the opportunity to be tested in the position of captain. Although his ideas are logical, for critics, they can be utopian.
