Defense Minister Ermal Nufi has made a lengthy response, following frequent accusations that Albania is trafficking in arms.

Nufi's reaction comes after repeated accusations the day before, on the "Plug" show.

According to Nufi, all the accusations are a television fantasy, unrelated to reality.

Nufi's full reaction

When television fantasy collides with reality!

Last night, the show "Plug" on Syri TV gave itself a difficult mission: to find arms trafficking where there is not even arms production yet!

This required a little editing, a little fantasy, a lot of insinuation and, above all, an incredibly flexible relationship with the facts.

Because when the facts don't support the story, in "The Blind Eye" it seems that the solution is simple: history is not changed, but the facts are distorted!

Unfortunately for the authors of this spectacle, reality does not work according to their scripts.

And, since there is a distinction between fantasy and fact that seems to have escaped notice, we are clarifying things.

BLACK ON WHITE!

1. KAYO IS NOT A MYSTERY. IT IS A STATE COMPANY!

KAYO's industrial cooperation model is based on a clear principle: the state party provides the contribution and conditions set out in the agreement, while the private partner brings the investment, technology, intellectual property (IP), technical know-how and business plan.

This is how industrial partnerships work. Not only in Albania, but also in countries with much more developed defense industries.

I understand that this may sound less exciting than a story about international arms trafficking, but the real economy has no obligation to adapt to the needs of Syri TV's audience.

2. AAT WAS CREATED TO PRODUCE WEAPONS. NOT TO PRODUCE FANTASY!

The AAT company was created to develop armament production capacities in Albania.

The state party has undertaken the commissioning of a facility that remains owned by the Albanian state, while the private partner has undertaken the investment, technology and relevant knowledge.

So, for those who have difficulty with the distinction between use and ownership:

THE PROPERTY REMAINS STATE-OWNED. INVESTMENT AND TECHNOLOGY ARE BROUGHT BY THE PRIVATE PARTNER.

It's not that complicated. Just read the documents before writing the script.

3. “COMBAT PROVEN” DOES NOT MEAN “MADE IN ALBANIA”!

In my speech in Parliament, on April 23, 2026, I referred to the technologies, patents, and products of AAT's technological partner.

I emphasized that these technologies and products are in production, in use, and "combat proven," meaning tested in real combat conditions.

I NEVER STATED THAT THESE WEAPONS WERE BEING MANUFACTURED IN ALBANIA!

4. A PRODHON AAT ARMË NË SHQIPËRI?

JO! ENDE JO!

These standards are not an obstacle to the development of the defense industry. They are the very foundation upon which it is being built.

Of course, NATO membership does not exclude control or the need for transparency. But equally clearly, an accusation of illegal arms trafficking requires proof and cannot be replaced by insinuations.

NOW, TWO WORDS ABOUT THE “INVESTIGATORS”!

I have no problem with critical journalism. On the contrary, I believe it is essential for any democratic society.

But investigative journalism has one fundamental difference from fiction: in journalism, the facts are found first and then the story is built. Not the other way around!

Taking a parliamentary statement, taking it out of context, attributing to it a meaning it didn't have, and then building an accusation of arms trafficking on this interpretation, is not automatically an investigation just because you broadcast it on television.

It is an interpretation that must be confronted with the facts!

And since we're on the facts, I want to say something to the authors of this spectacle:

YOU CAN'T "TRAFFIC" THE MEANING OF MY WORDS AND THEN ACCUSE ME OF ARMS TRAFFICKING!

This is perhaps the only form of trafficking that emerges clearly from the way this story is constructed: the trafficking of meanings, insinuations, and unsupported conclusions.

We are working to build industrial capacities, attract investments, transfer technology, and make Albania part of the Euro-Atlantic defense industry production chain.

We do not play the flute of Syri TV, nor do we intend to adapt the country's strategic projects according to the scenarios of its shows.

You can criticize. You can question. You can investigate. In fact, it's your duty to do so!

BUT IF YOU ACCUSE, TRY IT!

Because a serious accusation does not become true just because it is repeated out loud.

AND WHILE WE ARE ON THE NATIONAL INTERESTS…

The development of an Albanian defense industry is not an ordinary business project. It is an important issue for national security, the economy, and our industrial autonomy.

Of course, this development must be controlled, investigated, and held publicly accountable.

But when such a project is attacked through interpretations that are not based on evidence, it is legitimate to ask another question:

WHO CARES IF ALBANIA DOESN'T DEVELOP ITS OWN PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES IN THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY?

Are there new or very old interests, inside or outside the country, that would prefer an Albania without these capacities?

A weaker national defense industry is not in Albania's interest.

And the national interest cannot be held hostage to television fantasy!

FACTS DON'T NEED DIRECTION. FAIRY TALES DO!
