The fire that engulfed the 10-story building yesterday in Tirana is suspected to have started from a defect in the air conditioner located in the attic of the apartment.
The Director of the Fire Service, Shkëlqim Goxhaj, emphasized that from the footage and preliminary verifications, it was concluded that the fire spread from the air conditioner to the apartment and then to the other floors of the building.
"From the views and from all the expertise we have done today, we think that the fire started in this part of the building where the attic is also located.
I think the fire started from the air conditioners, we also have video footage of the moment the fire started. Today we were also with the leaders of Police Station No. 2, but we will also watch other videos from nearby businesses, to make sure of the source of the fire. 90 percent of the fire fell on the floor where the attic is located, on the floor of the burned apartment", said Goxhaj during an interview in "News 24".
He said that the building was equipped with all fire protection measures, such as hydrants and pumps.
