The siege of a 7,000-year-old settlement in Maliq is revealed

The three-year research of the joint expedition of Albanian archaeologists, archaeologists from the University of Cologne in Germany and that of Buffalo in the USA has discovered traces of the siege of a settlement dating from 5500 to 5 thousand years before Christ in the village of Podgorie in Maliqi.

The enclosure is not a fortification, but a moat that protected the settlement from wild animals. The excavations are focused on the area of Luadishti where it is believed that traces and objects belonging to the Middle Neolithic period are found.

The head of the expedition, Edlira Andoni, claimed that the intensity of the archaeological findings and the geomagnetic survey of the site indicated the existence of a Middle Neolithic settlement in the area of the Podgorie village.

Archaeologists have managed to document the age of the siege of this prehistoric settlement, which is thought to be 7 thousand years old.

"We discovered the enclosure of the settlement, it consists of a kind of channel, it is not a fortification, but a form to show where the settlement is located. To keep domesticated or wild animals", says Edlira Andoni, leader of the expedition, for Tv Klan.

During this year's research, the expedition focused on finding traces and elements of Neolithic dwellings. The results of the studies shed light on the architecture of the houses, built mainly with baked mud and wood.

"We are collecting new data for the dating of the settlement, in order to build the economic and social activities of the Neolithic inhabitants", emphasized Edlira Andoni.

The areas of Maliqi and Korça are known for the extraordinary archaeological treasures of the prehistoric period, which have been discovered by local and foreign expeditions.
