The Special Appeal has upheld the 28-year prison sentence for Ilir Selmani, found guilty as part of the criminal group that executed former police officer Santiago Malko.
Selmani did not appear at the hearing. Now, from house arrest, he must be sent to a high-security prison.
The case was returned for trial in the Appeals Court of Kosovo by the High Court, while Selmani was recently released under 'house arrest' due to exceeding the detention period.
Selmani was found guilty by the Criminal Court of Kosovo for the execution of Santiago Malko on August 19, 2019. A few days earlier, near his apartment, which is guarded by numerous police forces, Emiljano Nina, one of Ervis Martinaj's closest associates, was arrested at gunpoint. This episode led investigators to suspect that an assassination attempt was being attempted for revenge.
