The Supreme Court  has overturned the decision of the Special Appeal for Ilir Selman and  Elvis Gaçaj , suspects in the murder of former police officer Santiago Malko .

The decision was given in the consulting room by the criminal trio Ilir Panda, Sandër Simoni and Medi Bici .

Ilir Selmani  was sentenced on November 16, 2023 by a final decision to 28 years in prison, while the first instance decision for Elvis Gaçaj was overturned at that time by the Special Appeal, which decided to return the case for retrial to the GJKKO.

Leonard Duka , who is in the final phase of his defense, is also being tried for the murder of Santiago Malko .

Meanwhile, a day ago, the Appeal Court reconfirmed the 25-year prison sentence for Blendi Teta, another person involved in the murder of the former police officer.

How did the incident happen?

Santiago Malko, a former police officer, was executed on the evening of August 27, 2019, with a barrage of bullets in the "Xhamlliku" area of ​​Tirana.

Malko was dismissed from his police job after being arrested following a gambling dispute.

He was a name well-known to the authorities, suspected of being involved in several serious criminal incidents.

His name came to the fore in October 2018, where his friend Ervis Martinaj was injured, but was released due to lack of evidence.

Malko was suspected of being involved in several criminal events.
