The Tirana Court has remanded Elvis Shkambi, the perpetrator of the murder of Appeals Judge Astrit Kalaja, in prison.

The security measure of arrest with imprisonment was also confirmed for his uncle, Gjon Shkambi, as well as the security guard of the Court of Appeal in Tirana, Banush Koxhaj.

The hearing was held in the Criminal Chamber of the Court behind closed doors.

Elvis Shkambi, 30 years old, the author of the murder of the judge and the injury of Rakip and Ervis Kurtaj, father and son, faces three charges: murder of public officials, murder in other qualifying circumstances against the parties involved committed in collaboration and remaining in the attempt, as well as unauthorized possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition.

As for Gjon Shkambi, the prosecution has changed the initial qualification of the criminal offense referred to it by the police, which also accused him of murdering the judge. The prosecution suspects that Gjon was only aware of his nephew's plan against the opposing party in the trial. The prosecution even emphasizes that there are suspicions that Gjon Shkambi played the role of the instigator in the attempt to kill the father and son, who live in the property claimed by him in Shkodra.

Meanwhile, security officer Banush Koxhaj is accused of abuse of office.

According to the prosecution, he did not react even though the detectors signaled the presence of metals when Elvis and Gjon Shkambi entered the court premises. He did not conduct a physical search of them nor did he register them in the protocol book, as is obligatory for every citizen entering and leaving the institution.
