The Tirana Court of Appeal has sentenced Kiri Mërnica, the brother of Azgan Mërnica, to 12 years in prison for the murder of Florian Selim.

The court also sentenced Sadri Selac, his accomplice. The event happened on August 13, 2019, in the village of Sulaj in Fier, where the 23-year-old man was found stabbed to death.

His body was thrown into a canal and was found after several hours of searching. 23-year-old Florian Selimi was stabbed in the neck and his body was dragged a few meters from the scene.

Dukate Selimi, the mother of Florian Selimi, has appealed several times for justice both in the competent bodies and in the media.

At the end of the trial, on 19.11.2024, the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction, composed of the panel with Judge Relator Mr. Genti Shala and members Mrs. Brikena Ukperaj and Mr. Dritan Hasani decided:

-Enforcement of decision no. 583, dated 04.12.2023 of the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction Fier regarding the guilt and the amount of punishment for the defendants K. M, L. B and R. M regarding the offenses provided by articles 323/1 of 278/1 of the Criminal Code, as well as material evidence and court costs.

- The change of decision no. 583, dated 04.12.2023 of the Court of First Instance of Fier General Jurisdiction for the rest as follows:

- The guilty plea of ​​the defendant K. M for committing the criminal offense "Deliberate murder", provided for by article 76, 22 and 25 of the Criminal Code and his sentence of 11 years of imprisonment.

- Based on Article 55 of the Penal Code, the combination of sentences with a single sentence of 12 years of imprisonment.

- The guilty plea of ​​the defendant R. M for committing the criminal offense "Deliberate murder", provided by article 76, 22 and 25 of the Criminal Code and his sentence of 11 years of imprisonment.

- Based on Article 55 of the Penal Code, the combination of sentences with a single sentence of 12 years of imprisonment.

- The guilty plea of ​​the defendant L. B for committing the criminal offense "Deliberate murder", provided by article 76, 22 and 25 of the Criminal Code and his sentence of 11 years of imprisonment.

- Based on Article 55 of the Penal Code, the combination of sentences with a single sentence of 12 years of imprisonment.

- The guilty plea of ​​the defendant M. M for committing the criminal offense "Murder with intent", provided for by article 76,22 and 25 of the Criminal Code and his sentence of 11 years of imprisonment.

- The defendants K. M., R. M., L. B. and M. M. shall serve their sentences in a regular security prison.
