Among the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar is Laylat al-Qadr ( the night when the Quran was revealed ).
It occurs only during the month of Ramadan and lasts one night from sunset to dawn. This divine night falls sometime during the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
What is the importance?
It is said that fasting on the date of Laylat al-Qadr is worth 1,000 months or approximately 84 years, with the reward being greater than ever!
Kadr, in Arabic, literally translates to ' fate ' or ' decree '.
It is believed that Muslims can change their fate and what has been written for them by God through prayer.
Because we will never know exactly when Laylat al-Qadr falls during the last 10 nights, Muslims are encouraged to take advantage of each night by praying and fasting.
Nights that are filled with God's mercy and forgiveness.
The daily rituals of Ramadan remain, such as fasting, reading the Quran, and prayers.
Muslims also perform itikaf during these last 10 nights, which is the act of spending days and nights in a mosque to perform devout worship.
Sadaqah is also given, an act of generosity in various forms such as feeding someone a meal, giving gifts, or performing a good deed.
