Mayor  Erion Veliaj 's international lawyers  have sent a request to SPAK to meet him in detention on September 10.

Lawyers say that Veliaj should sign the appeal that will be sent to Strasbourg regarding the issue of his arrest.

This is expected to be the second meeting, after the first was held on July 28, where Veliaj hosted for five hours two British lawyers from the international studio "Mishcon de Reya", Ben Brandon and Celia Marr.

Meanwhile, on September 2, the Special Court of Appeals rejected Erion Veliaj's request, which challenged the decision of the Court of Criminal Appeals to suspend pre-trial detention.

The defense announced an appeal to the Supreme Court, arguing that Veliaj was not a reason for postponing the hearings, as in one case, lawyer Maksim Haxhia, who defends Ajola Xoxa, was absent, and in another case, the lawyer of another defendant was absent.

The mayor continues to be isolated in Durrës prison since February 10, 2025, when he was arrested by order of SPAK.
