The increase in users of narcotics and especially hard drugs is one of the most disturbing problems of Albanian society.
But in addition to the increase in users, a number that is a little comforting is also the increase in the number of people seeking help to break away from drug addiction. In the rehabilitation center in Elbasan, the number of people seeking help to quit drugs has doubled compared to a year ago.
A2 has brought the story of a 44-year-old man who, after more than 20 years as a heroin user, is trying to regain his life. Like most users, his beginnings were spontaneous as much from curiosity as from the social circle. " Initially, from 1997, I drank hashish, in company, at parties. They told me it's easy, but then I got stuck", he says.
As the months passed, the addiction grew and the drug intake became a goal in his life, and of course the consequences were multi-dimensional. " In the year 2000, I was admitted to the hospital several times, I was bored with life, my only goal was to find drugs. I quit my job, I ran out of money, I started getting debts, I was engaged and broke up ", he continues the story.
Fortunately, the registration in the rehabilitation center has increased the hopes and the possibility that the 44-year-old will return to a life independent of narcotics, and what is most important, he himself has understood this. He even has some advice that comes from what he has experienced himself. "It is not good to try it at all, you will be disappointed all your life ", he claims for A2 CNN.
Like many other needy sections of our society, drug users seeking help to break free from addiction need serious commitment to reclaim their lives and become an example in society's battle against addiction. from drugs.
