In an interview from The Hague on 'Top Story', former president Hashim Thaçi rejected the accusations of organ trafficking raised after the Dick Marty report, describing the investigations as a justification for the establishment of the Special Court.
Thaçi argues that the KLA has been investigated and tried more than any other party to the conflict, while emphasizing that the war in Kosovo was an attempt at self-defense against Serbian repression and massacres.
Referring to his role during the war, he stated that he returned from the West to join the Albanian resistance and that his activities have always been transparent.
"The investigations into Dick Marty's accusations of alleged organ trafficking led nowhere. They were simply a justification for the establishment of this court. For almost six years we have heard recycling of accusations, treated for three decades now in various institutions of international justice, then also in local and Serbian ones. The KLA is the most investigated and tried of all the warring parties in the territory of the former Yugoslavia. On the other hand, it was the most cooperative with international justice of all.
Something doesn't add up here.
The truth is that historical oppression and Serbian massacres against Albanians massively expanded the KLA as a popular self-defense reaction. We recall the massacres of February and March 1998 in Drenica. This fact is confirmed and echoed by world diplomats.
Serbia started the war. Kosovo was protected from extermination. The same thing was done a few years ago by the Croats, Bosnians and Slovenes against Serbia. As the Ukrainians are doing today against the Russian aggressor.
"I returned to Kosovo from the West, when many people thought that Kosovo was giving up. I returned to join the Albanian resistance. Now I am being accused of having influenced my return to ignite the momentum and massify the resistance. At all times and in all my activities, I have been transparent, to the people of Kosovo and to international mechanisms," Thaçi said.
