Berisha Roundtable, Gjiknuri: Energy sector gravedigger returns to crime scene
Damian Gjiknuri

The General Secretary of the Socialist Party, Damian Gjiknuri, reacted to the roundtable that former Prime Minister Sali Berisha held today on the energy crisis.

Gjiknuri says that "Sali Berisha tried today to return to the eyes of Albanians as an angel, although each of us knows that the mask of the angel does not hang over the face of the undertaker of the energy sector."

Damian Gjiknur's reaction:

Almost 9 years after leaving the "energy corpse" in our hands, Sali Berisha tried today to return to the eyes of Albanians as an angel, although each of us knows that the mask of the angel does not hang over the face of the undertaker of the energy sector. Like it or not, like it or not, he will be remembered as the architect of the financial collapse with the energy sector, with losses over 45%, the debt chain between companies over $ 1 billion and the bankruptcy loop thanks to the privatization of failed and corrupt distribution company.

Energy reform is one of the most enduring successes of the "Rama" government and why not one of the achievements that as a former minister make me feel proud. In only the first 5 years of our government we managed to halve energy losses, double receipts, return the company's assets in the hands of the Albanian state, put an end to the abuse of citizens in billing, break the debt chain between companies and financially sound sector.

We invested over 600 million euros from public companies in production, transmission and distribution. Generating capacities? It is enough for anyone to open the ERE report for 2013 and compare it with the report for 2021. We had 1,878 ME of installed public / private capacities, while today we have 2,605 ME, among which many renewable energy capacities serving diversification of energy resources.

Two words about gas. Sali Berisha signed an unfavorable contract where the only benefit was the passage of the TAP pipeline in Albanian territory. No toll in favor of the state, no amount of gas provided, no reserved transmission capacity. Albpetrol immediately applied in 2014 to reserve gas capacity. There was no amount of gas available because it was already reserved as early as 2013 by other countries which knew how to negotiate better than Sali Berisha's government.

Forensics clearly explains the phenomenon of the author returning to the crime scene, so it is understandable that Sali Berisha is tempted to talk about the energy sector.
