Police have arrested a 36-year-old resident of Italy after he attempted to take over 223,000 undeclared euros out of Albania through the port of Durres.

During the operation, the young Albanian man with the initials MD was arrested after 223,200 euros of undeclared money was found in his backpack.

Meanwhile, the amount of money has been seized and 223,200 euros are suspected to be the product of criminal activities.

A 36-year-old man, resident in Italy, has been arrested for attempting to take money out of Albania without declaring it to the tax authorities.

As a result of detailed controls and verifications at the entry/exit of Albania, with the objective of preventing and combating border crimes, the Border Police services of the port of Durrës, in cooperation with the customs authorities, finalized the "Asset" operation.

During the operation, the Albanian citizen, MD, 36 years old, resident in Italy, was arrested in flagrante delicto, because 223,200 euros were found in his backpack, which he was attempting to take out of Albania, without declaring to the PKK.

The procedural materials were passed to the Durrës Prosecutor's Office, where investigations are continuing to determine the source of this money.
