The Constitutional Court will decide today regarding the requests submitted to it for the repeal of the law on the tax on free professions.
The Democratic Party, licensed experts, accountants and lawyers, (whose requests were combined into one) demand partial repeal of the law with the argument that it is discriminatory, burdens the middle class and is not in accordance with the Constitution.
According to the complainants, the tax on professionals has closed hundreds of businesses, undermines the security of businesses and will make the services they provide more expensive.
In presenting their arguments on June 18, the plaintiffs clarified that they cannot compare freelancers with commercial businesses as they are not guaranteed profit.
While the Assembly, the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Finance stated that their claims are unfounded, since tax favors cannot last forever and that with these changes abuses are avoided.
There are 25,000 tax professionals who are affected by the new law that came into effect on January 1 of this year and by the flat tax of 15% who earns up to 14 million ALL and 23% who earns over this amount.
