Professor of criminology, Ervin Karamuço, commented on the visit of Ambassador Yuri Kim to SPAK, where he held a meeting with the new head of this institution, Altin Duman.
According to Karamuço, the USA is already waiting to collect the fruits of the investment in the justice reform. He notes that arrests are expected as prosecutors have several hot cases on their hands.
"The visit comes in the wake of a great pressure that the ambassador has undertaken to encourage the institutions to act in those cases that she thinks have been delayed, or delayed for arrests.
She goes there to set some points that are her challenge. The US has invested and is now looking to reap the rewards. This does not depend only on Duman but on all the prosecutors who have hot files in their hands and what is expected is that there will be arrests. We have several ex-ministers and even MPs in detention, but it seems there are still many files waiting, at high levels of government and former government.
The files of the incinerators, the check ups, are on tight deadlines to complete the investigations, because then it falls to prescribe the criminal liability against the persons under investigation. It is a big challenge. SPAK is the BKH, there are also special courts. They were created for the high political, decision-making, central and local levels.
There was pressure, there were also threats. Last year, the American ambassador visited him several times and appealed to the prosecutors for protection. We are dealing with high profiles who have support who can threaten, blackmail and close files. The fact that an American ambassador visits our institutions so often shows that they are still hesitant. But for me the visit is healthy," said Karamuço in MCN.
