According to the data of the High Prosecution and Judicial Council, it appears that in the Albanian justice system, prosecutors are more at risk than judges.

During 2022, 8 requests were submitted to the Commission for the Protection of Prosecutors by magistrates who argued that their lives were in danger because of their duties.

Among them, one request was for the first time, another seven for an extension of the protection period, as they had benefited from it earlier.

In the 8 cases examined by the members of the KLP, one of them was an emergency assessment, finding that the risk to life was momentary and the prosecutor was taken under protection by the police.

The data show that there are currently 6 prosecutors with protection and according to the assessment of the KLP, they are close to the largest prosecution offices in the country. Elbasan holds the highest number.

On the other hand, during the year 2022, only one request for protection was presented to the Commission for the Protection of Judges, which was approved.

The Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, warned on Monday that the security authorities are considering changing strategies for the protection of magistrates, increasing the role of SHISH and making some changes to reflect the protection that the law gives them.
