Paolo Zampolli

Paolo Zampolli, the US administration's special envoy for Global Partnerships, is in Tirana, where during his stay he held several meetings with representatives of Albanian politics and the Bektashi community.

Zampolli first met with the World Grandmaster of the Bektashi Order, Baba Mondi. According to information made public about the meeting, the visit was related to the canonization ceremony of Mother Teresa.

However, the American official's visit comes at a time when the project to create a sovereign Bektashi state in Tirana has returned to the attention of international media.

Afterwards, Zampolli held a meeting with the head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi. His agenda also includes a meeting with the head of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party, Taulant Balla, while according to sources, the American envoy is also expected to hold meetings with representatives of the Albanian government.

So far, the United States Embassy in Tirana has not issued an official announcement on the visit and the topics of discussion. 

Sources indicate that one of the important issues in these meetings is related precisely to the project for the creation of a sovereign Bektashi state, although it remains unclear whether this is the main topic of his visit.
