Great Britain is expected to implement again the "white list" that Albania is a part of, i.e. safe countries and Albanian immigrants who will enter illegally, are expected to be deported within 10 days.
The Times reports that all asylum seekers from countries deemed safe by the Home Office will be fast-tracked to leave as part of plans to tackle the migrant crisis in the English Channel.
Suella Braverman, the interior secretary, is seeking to revive a list of designated "safe" countries whose citizens' asylum claims are largely considered unfounded. Rejected applicants will not have the right to appeal.
The list will include Albania, the nationality that accounted for the largest number of small boats along the Channel this year with more than 12,000 of the 43,000 arrivals.
The Times learns that the Home Office is looking to emulate a policy carried out by the New Labor government in the early 2000s, in which it dealt with applications from asylum seekers from so-called "whitelisted" countries within ten days.
Migrants arriving in small boats from countries on the list will be detained at the Manston processing site in Kent, or other reception centres, where their asylum claims will be fast-tracked. The move is one of a series of measures drawn up by Braverman as part of a renewed crackdown on cross-channel migration.
Next week she is expected to travel to northern France to meet interior ministers from the Calais group of nations, which includes France, Belgium and the Netherlands, to discuss further cooperation in tackling people smuggling. The informal group was set up this month to take action against illegal migration in northern Europe.
Asylum claims from countries on the "white list" will be presumed to be "manifestly unfounded" by Home Office officials unless an individual provides evidence to the contrary. The new approach would enable the Home Office to process these asylum applications significantly faster than the current average of more than a year.
Those who are provided with a "clearly unfounded" certificate will not have the right to appeal.
The appeals process for claimants from "safe" countries was tightened under the Nationality and Borders Act this year, with rejected claimants no longer given the right to appeal from their country of departure.
An inspection of the site in July by Charlie Taylor, the chief inspector of prisons, warned that facilities for managing people with Covid and other infectious diseases were "weak".
