Eurojust announced on Tuesday that it has frozen dozens of bank accounts in more than 20 European countries as part of a major investigation launched in 2019 into a call center fraud scheme.
The Albanian authorities are also part of this investigation. Voxnews.al sources claim that in our country, account blocking measures have also been taken, but without giving more details about the number of frozen accounts, the banks where these accounts were opened, or the people behind them.
'The accounts have been blocked at the request of Eurojust, the Swiss and German authorities,' say the sources.
Investigations into the fraud scheme, luring EU citizens into fake investments, began in October 2019, following a complaint to Swiss authorities.
Investigations revealed fraudulent call centers and websites of fake financial investment companies in Ukraine and later in Georgia.
The investigation was temporarily suspended due to the war in Ukraine. At the end of 2022, however, targeted actions were taken in 23 countries, including Albania, where countries were searched and bank accounts and assets were frozen.
Investigations revealed that most of the victims were Swiss and German investors. The perpetrators allegedly used over a hundred websites, posing as serious investment companies, offering financial transactions in cryptocurrencies and other trading options.
