The lack of children is felt especially in rural areas. Tch learns from the data of the Ministry of Education that this school year there are about 21,000 children of different ages studying in joint classes.
"I'm in the third grade, I'm in the fourth grade. We study together... there are 11 of us in the class, 6 in the third grade, 4 in the fourth grade and 1 in the 5th grade," said the students.
"There are few children.. they have run away!", said a parent.
The Allgjatë village school was rebuilt after the earthquake, but compared to the previous building, it seems to have shrunk, as a result of the reduction in the number of students. This educational institution has become dependent on the Lalmi school, due to the reduction of the number of students below 80 as a condition for having a director.
"This school was 9 years old. Now only primary is left. How could it be worse? It's a miserable situation!", said Aleksandër Skendaj, a resident of the village.
Today in the Allgjat school there are only two united primary education classes with students who can be counted on the fingers of the hand, who show that even though they are few in number, group teaching is lacking.
Parents are happy that at least the village school continues to be open, but when the basic knowledge of their children is truncated, at a time when development moves at a fast pace, the future of these students and many others like them in Albania , slides into the ground.
