The Special Court has again postponed the preliminary hearing in the case against Shkodra Mayor Benet Beci. For the third time, the latter failed to appear in court, while granting special power of attorney to his lawyer Ervin Metalla.
The latter was not in court, and had informed the black squads that he was in another process. Benet Beci and the 6 other defendants are accused by SPAK of violating equality in tenders conducted in collaboration.
Judge Marinela Osmani postponed the hearing until next Tuesday, February 24, where SPAK will read the request to move the case to trial and the defense will make its objections.
Another defendant in this process is Adela Ruko, the wife of the former general director of the road authority Evis Berberi, who is currently in custody.
According to SPAK, Beci violated equality between operators in a consultancy tender conducted by KESH in 2019 with the object of "Strategic Development of the Energy Sector" worth around 700 million lek.
The investigation was launched mainly on the basis of the referral of acts by investigators of the National Bureau of Investigation, BKH, after the seizure of material evidence in Evis Berber's apartment.
