US fighter jet crashes in Iran

The United States has officially confirmed that it is conducting search and rescue operations for two American pilots missing in Iranian territory, following the downing of an F-15 fighter jet.

This is the first official reaction from the US, following earlier reports from Iranian media, which claimed that a US military plane had crashed in the west of the country and that the pilots were missing.

According to the Israeli website Ynet News, one of the American pilots was rescued by US military forces and is in good condition. The rescue occurred several hours later, during which time US forces had established a secure perimeter around him. The fate of the second pilot remains unknown at this time.

A US search helicopter was also hit by a missile in Iran. The Iranian Mehr news agency reported that a US helicopter, engaged in a search mission for the plane that reportedly crashed in Iran, and the two pilots on board, were also hit by a missile.

Earlier, Iranian media reported clashes between US and Iranian forces, as well as airstrikes being launched to search for the pilots. Iranian state television even announced a reward for anyone who helps find them.
