Stories of users who end up in the police as thieves or perpetrators of events such as violence have become classics in police stations. Gazetasi.al has often reported on the disturbing trend of young people addicted to narcotics. But there is no official figure on the number of users, despite the fact that a year ago during a crime monitoring in Tirana, the Fol Center found a high figure of 5 to 6 young people who were found on average by the police to be in possession of hashish doses and then cocaine and heroin.

A 30-year-old man with the initials EK was the next person arrested by the Tirana police who was caught red-handed stealing. And he had his defense ready, although drug addiction did not make his position any easier. The suspected thief equated the addiction as bad as the extreme poverty conditions his family is stuck in.

"I am the father of two children and I live in very difficult economic conditions. I am a heroin user and I am unemployed. I make a living with whatever I can. Sometimes I collect different things that I sell for scrap", the young man from the capital began his confession at the police station.

But the issue that caused him problems was the theft of a bicycle, which after he solved it he tried to leave with it. But he fell a few meters away from the scene and this was taken advantage of by the owner of the bike who caught him red-handed. The police write in the minutes that the bicycle thief was caught near Pjeter Budi school. The witness who is questioned by the police is citizen ID

"In the private parking lot, a male person approached the bicycle which was tied to the inside with a rope. He snapped the cable, got on the bike and fell five meters below. This bicycle was owned by the citizen AS. I caught the thief together with the parking lot guard and during this time we notified the police about what had happened," says the witness according to Gazetasi.al sources.

The owner of the bicycle insists to the police that he bought it for 30 thousand lek and that he was guarding it from thieves. But the heroin user says this wasn't the first bike he stole.

"I took the bicycles to the AT citizen and sold them even though he knew they were not mine. I don't remember fixed cases. Apart from me, the bicycles are also stolen by two brothers, F and EB, who, like me, sell them to citizens from Përmet. The day I was near the Pjetër Budi school and saw the bicycle, I took it because I really needed money for drugs. I grabbed the handle with difficulty and got on my bike to leave, but a few meters further I was stopped by a man and then they escorted me to the police station," the user defends himself./GazetaSi
