A 14-year-old boy has been urgently admitted to the Tirana University Hospital Center after presenting at the Durrës hospital and being diagnosed with meningitis over the past weekend.

The minor is under the care of doctors, while the case has been kept secret by health authorities.

Parents of students at the 9-year-old "Kushtrimi i Lirisë" school have expressed concern about the lack of preventive measures.

They told TCH, off-camera, that they were not notified of the situation and that no preventive measures were taken at the school. Currently, the students of this school are attending classes at the host school "Eftali Koçi", as their building will undergo complete reconstruction.

This case follows another fatal case that occurred in December last year, when a 17-year-old girl lost her life from acute meningitis at the QSUT. Her health condition deteriorated rapidly after she was initially admitted to the Durres hospital.

The high school student had been on a school excursion to Voskopoja, after which she developed a mild viral condition that rapidly worsened and after being sent to Tirana, she was diagnosed with acute meningitis.

In this case, all exposed persons, family members, students, and medical staff were recommended to take prophylactic medications, while the high school premises were disinfected.
