Prosecutor General Olsian Çela is reporting on criminality for 2023 to the Law Commission. As part of the investigations, 2,675 phones used by 2,492 persons suspected of being involved in criminal offenses were intercepted.
The prosecution registered 170 proceedings with 123 defendants and 140 proceedings with 151 defendants were sent for trial.
Prosecutor Çela said that the active role in the investigation of the criminal offense of corruption has increased
"Prosecutors have increased the active role for criminal offenses of corruption and those related to the duty by starting mainly 18 criminal proceedings, compared to 16 started in 2022 and in conducting proactive investigations and/or using special investigation tools, in 31 criminal proceedings.
This process has served both the prevention and/or further interruption of criminal activity, as well as the strike/finalization with the arrest in flagrante delicto or the detention of 7 persons suspected of committing criminal offenses under the jurisdiction of the prosecutor's office at the courts of first instance with jurisdiction general"
Likewise, proactive investigations have made it possible to provide data not only for the criminal offense for which the proceedings have been registered, but also for the discovery in 6 (six) cases of the commission of the criminal offense of corruption and active corruption in the elections, foreseen from articles 319, 319/c, 319/ç, and 328 of the Criminal Code under the competence of the Special Prosecutor's Office, which has enabled further investigations by that prosecutor's office," said Cela.
Also, 44 criminal proceedings for corruption were transferred for competence to SPAK, which registered 32 criminal proceedings
