The murder of the 28-year-old officer, Novruz Cenalia, shocked the city of Fier yesterday.

Cenaliaj's father worked in the operating room of the Fier Police, when unfortunately he received the tragic news while at work about his son's murder.

Novruz Cenalia will be escorted to his last residence tomorrow, while before the funeral ceremony, tributes will be held in his honor at the theater of Bylist.

The perpetrator of the murder, 23-year-old Azgan Mërnica, is still on the run, while the reasons that led to the killing of the officer a few meters from his house continue to remain unclear.

Cenaliaj was outside the service hours when he was executed as it was the second shift. So far, according to the police, the main track of the investigation is the instant conflict. It is suspected that the victim initially argued with the perpetrator Azgan Mërnica about a road crossing by car.

They were both passing by vehicle on the village roads, when they had a conflict with each other and then the conflict escalated into the use of weapons.

But there are also doubts that the pair may have known each other earlier, due to the victim's job.

According to information, the brother of Azgan Mërnica, Kiri Mërnica, is currently in prison for attempted murder. He was arrested on April 17, 2021 after he and 3 others were involved in a conflict where Pashk Palnikaj was injured.

Kiri Mërnica was under 'house arrest' at the time the injury occurred. Mërnica is accused of being involved in an event that happened in 2019, where 23-year-old Florian Selimi, originally from Tropoja and a resident of the village of Sulaj, was shot dead.

He was accused of being one of the perpetrators of this event, a charge he denied.
