Prime Minister Edi Rama and his wife Linda Rama have set the iftar table for believers on the occasion of the Holy month of Ramadan this Thursday evening, March 12th.

During his speech, Rama expressed his hope that this will be the last term of an Albanian prime minister outside the great 'home' of the European Union.

"And since this is the first iftar of this fourth mandate in office that gives me the privilege of inviting you here with Linda, while this mandate, I want to be the last of an Albanian Prime Minister outside the home of the United Europe, I want to close with a detail that enhances my optimism for Albania, that for the first time in decades, Ramadan and Christmas will meet in 2030. Therefore, as I lower the curtain of my speech, I want to express today a great gratitude with all my heart to Albanian Muslims, for what they are and wishing them to have every good thing they pray for, I want to wish that they will be in their lifetime, the majority that they have always been until today, a living example of the great truth of Albania, where faith is not a line that divides, but a table that unites and where Islam, just like Christianity, calls Europe to the head of the table", he said . Rama says.

Among other things, during his speech, Prime Minister Rama stated that this iftar meal unites not only Muslim believers but people of all faiths as well as non-believers, while giving messages that fasting teaches people patience and how to tame the 'cave' within themselves.

“Dear friends and guests, fasting, believers and non-believers. I welcome you all to the traditional Iftar table, which together with Linda we set with pleasure in honor of the values and renewed tradition of the Holy month of Ramadan. The Iftar table is the only table where you are both the setter and the set, the host and the friend. Invited and free among acquaintances, but also connected to the strangers around you. You are the one who gathers or is gathered, but it is something higher that unites: God, Allah, the universe… Or simply in the words of Kant, the divinity of the heavens above me, the moral law within me. These two worlds meet at the Iftar table and this is precisely the reason why even the greatest atheist gathered at this table finds it impossible to think even for a moment about his own smallness under the great constellation.

Around this table, the invisible law that lives within every human being, the law that tells us that the other is not a stranger, but a neighbor, a fellow traveler, a similar particle of temporality under the same sky, takes possession of certain territories of the mind and soul. Small or large, but it takes them and becomes visible to consciousness. Fasting teaches man self-patience and the path of taming his first ancestor, the caveman within himself. That moment becomes dignity when bread is shared among all hands , "said Rama at the beginning of his speech, who wished that the fasting of all believers be accepted.
