Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Israel, where he is delivering a speech at a special session in the Israeli parliament.
Rama spoke about religious coexistence in Albania. Rama announced that a museum will be opened in the country to commemorate the deeds that the Albanian people have done to save Jews from torture.
" To return to the speech and my choice to introduce myself with the words of an Arab leader, I have learned that I am not a Muslim, I am Catholic but my better half is Muslim. Our ancestors are Orthodox Christians. It would not be a surprise if my son chose the Jewish faith, but it would also be very positive for him to be Muslim or Christian.
This is a normal Albanian story. We have several religions, which we celebrate and respect each other. My people with these beliefs welcomed Pope Francis. The Holy Father Francis did not call the reality of Albania a religious coexistence, but a brotherhood. With the same pride we will open the museum for the deeds of the Albanian people to save the Jews in Vlora .
Rama said in the Israeli parliament that Albania is the twentieth country that emerged from World War II with the largest number of sheltered Jews.
He also spoke about the Peace Board, where he said that our country will work on this new window of opportunity for peace for the people of Gaza.
"Albania is the only country that emerged from the Second World War with many Jews sheltered within its territory. I came here after the Parliament approved the decision to become part of the peace board and to make Albania a founding country of the peace board that will contribute to this new window of opportunity for peace for the people of Gaza and the region," said Rama.
