A 20-year-old girl of Albanian origin has lost her life a few days after being in critical condition in hospital, after falling from the balcony of her apartment.

The victim, identified as Anxhela Byku, fell on Tuesday from the balcony of her apartment in Piacenza, where she lived with her husband.

She was immediately transported in very serious condition to the Piacenza hospital, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit.

However, due to very serious injuries sustained from the fall from a height, the 20-year-old passed away on Thursday evening, March 12.

Italian authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident. The Carabinieri investigation unit is trying to reconstruct every detail of what happened.

At this stage of the investigation, no other person is suspected of involvement in this incident, but it is not clear whether it is considered accidental or a suicide attempt.

Meanwhile, friends and relatives have expressed their grief over the loss of the young woman.

In the days when she was fighting for her life in the hospital, many people stood by her family.

According to IlPiacenza , even a day before her death was confirmed, around 40 people had gathered outside the hospital's intensive care unit, awaiting news of her condition.
