The Albanian government has engaged in several concessions and investments in the road infrastructure that will rob the budget of hundreds of millions of euros.

The Arbri road, the Thumane - Kashar road concession, the Lekaj - Fier road concession, the Llogora tunnel, the Dukat - Llogora road are some of the very large projects with an extraordinary bill. But should so much money be spent on concessions for road construction even on roads that are built like the one Lekaj - Fier?

The government is justified by the fact that it will be the concessionaires who will build it with their own money. But this is not true, because in the end the Albanians will pay the bill, while the concessionaires will only receive the profits of this work. 1.3 billion in Lekaj - Fier, 1.3 billion in Thumanë - Kashar, hundreds of millions of euros for the Llogora tunnel, which leads the seasonal flow of visitors directly to the coast.

The tunnel shortens the travel time to get to Himara, but along the entire coast, from Palasa to the border with Saranda, you are not guaranteed a quality health service. The Himara Hospital is just a simple health center with a general practitioner and nurses at a time when, during the height of the summer season, the number of people staying there increases by 100 times.

In Fier, today there is no full health service, nor in Durrës, Kavajë, Lushnjë or Rrogozhinë. Meanwhile, golden roads will pass near cities without dignified hospitals. Citizens, more than road concessions won by a small handful of people with clientelistic ties to politics, you need new hospitals, tidy cities and quality schools for children. Investments to increase the standard of living of Albanians, better health and education, are the only possibility to stop the massive depopulation of villages and cities which will have dirt roads, but no more inhabitants./TCH
