The rains of the last 24 hours brought floods in most of the country especially in the northern areas. On the other hand, the Albanian Electro-Energy Corporation announced that under these conditions it has opened the Drin cascade, discharging 30% of the water volume, unable to use it for energy reserves that are so necessary in this time of crisis.

Although the rains have increased the water level in the cascade, the Albanian Electric Corporation continues to buy electricity. In the last tender for the period 14-20 November 2022, KESH has purchased an amount of energy of 42,504 MWH at a price of 228.32 euros MWH. So KESH buys energy from abroad at salty prices and at the same time pours millions of euros into the sea through the discharge of water from hydropower dams.

While the Albanian Electro-Energy Corporation headed by Ergys Verdho, one of the most trusted directors of Minister Balluku, continues to buy electricity, the institution is justified that it could not have predicted the rain at this moment. Prime Minister Rama also published such an excuse through Facebook, where he announced that the import of electricity continued until November 19, as otherwise the country would endanger the energy supply.

"The truth is that KESH has decided to import electricity according to the procedure of November 11, because from all the weather forecasts, the rainfall situation was expected to intensify only at noon on November 20, and if it had not been imported, energy reserves it would be at the historical minimum, endangering the normal energy supply itself", said Rama.

The justification for the impossibility of forecasting the weather contradicts the fact that just a few months ago, KESH held a 1.5 million euro tender for a special satellite system that would accurately predict the weather. The system also ensures that KESH has accurate information about the amount of rain, as well as calculating the flow of water in the Drin cascades.

At the height of the most serious energy crisis in the country, when the government warned citizens about the increase in the price of electricity, KESH does not choose to store or export the energy produced in the country by using the high amount of rainfall, but continues to import it at prices high and pours the water of the Drin cascades to flood Shkodra./News24
