Cyberattacks are becoming more sophisticated and malicious in the wake of this digital revolution. The attack on online systems in Albania three years ago by Iran should not be repeated, which is why Albanian institutions plan to spend 67 million euros to invest in staff and advanced technologies to increase cybersecurity.

The National Cyber Security Strategy 2025-2030, released for public consultation, states that technical and professional capacities must be increased to face the challenges of the digital space.

"Cybersecurity challenges are becoming even greater as a result of the continuous increase in the number of cyber attacks, as well as the high level and sophistication of these attacks, which use the most advanced technologies. The targets of these attacks are becoming increasingly broad, including not only the public sector, but also vital services, such as health, finance, transport and energy," the strategy states.

To create robust systems to protect critical infrastructure from attacks sponsored by states, criminal organizations or malicious groups, 57 million euros will be invested in the implementation of advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence for detecting, preventing and responding to cyber attacks.

"The Albanian state, economy and government face ongoing cyber threats, which require immediate attention to protect critical infrastructure, public sector networks and citizens' data," the strategy states.
It will also invest in intelligent structures to prevent extremist and terrorist activities in the digital space, with the aim of preventing extremist propaganda online.

Last year alone, 971 criminal offenses in the field of cybercrime were registered in the country, an increase of 44.5% compared to 2023, when 672 criminal offenses of this nature were registered./shqiptarja.com
