The union of the employees of the Universities of Albania will hold a protest tomorrow at 10:00 in front of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
The news was announced by this union itself, through a press release stating that the protest comes after the failure of the Prime Minister of the Ministry of Education to respond to the demands that the union has submitted.
Their demands consist of:
1. Salary increase for lecturers and academic and administrative support staff. SPUSH records the rise of inflation, prices of food and other basic living products, does not respond to teachers' payments, which are the lowest in the region.
2 It is proposed to reach the salary level of Kosovo's public universities within 2 years, with an increase of 30% in October 2022 and 20% in October 2023. 2. The increase in funding for scientific research to be at least 0.3% of GDP in 2023 Currently, in percentage of GDP, it is more than 10 times lower than some countries in the Region.
3. The reinstatement of salary supplements, for "Dangerous health at work", for laboratory workers and academic staff working in laboratories, in contact with "dangerous substances and other preparations".
4. Increasing the salary supplement for seniority, for academic staff employed full-time in public HEIs, for each year of work, from the current 0.5% rate to 1% and from 15 years that is currently at 25 years.
5. Increasing the payment of supplementary workload hours for internal pedagogues (PAE) and external contract pedagogues (PAK), so that it approaches the value of payment by private universities.
6. The revaluation of the teaching hour, since there is a 50% discount of the payment of the teaching hour as a result of the non-differentiation of the teaching hour of the lecture, which previously had a coefficient of 2 for the master's lecture and 1.5 for the bachelor's, while now has a coefficient of 1, being the same as other classes in the auditorium (seminars, laboratories, practices, etc.)
9. In order to make the budget and income of public universities as well as their use transparent, we ask the MAS to exercise its legal powers, by immediately making public online, on the U-Transparenca platform and on the websites of every public university, detailed financial data, 3-month and annual, on the use of these funds by HEIs, for the last three years, for all expenditure items (current ones, investments, salaries and bonuses for both academic staff and authorities or governing bodies/boards, supporting administration of HEIs, funds for scholarships for students, as well as expenses for scientific research and publications).
