The Ministry of Rural Development and Agriculture has reacted after the denunciation of the death of 4200 ducks on a farm in the village of Miza in Divjaka.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in this case, we are no longer dealing with bird flu, but with salmonella. According to the ministry, salmonellosis is a family of bacteria with over 3000 serotypes that are often found in birds, even without causing disease or death, depending on the strain or serotype.
The ministry also reassures the citizens by emphasizing that even in case of birds being affected by this disease, the food product, even in case it is contaminated, if it is subjected to the usual thermal treatment (boiling or baking over 60 degrees Celsius for at least 15 minutes) , does not pose a risk to the consumer.
Reaction of the Ministry of Agriculture:
Regarding the case reported in the village of Mizë in the municipality of Divjaka, on the farm of Mr. Ardian Bakia, the Institute of Food and Veterinary Safety, after conducting the analysis, confirms that we are not dealing with the presence of avian influenza (bird flu).
According to the results of the analysis, the birds are affected by salmonella disease. Salmonellosis is a family of bacteria with over 3000 serotypes that are often found in birds, even without causing disease or death, depending on the strain or serotype.
However, the food product, even if it is contaminated, if subjected to the usual heat treatment (boiling or baking over 60 degrees Celsius for at least 15 minutes), does not pose a risk to the consumer.
The Fier Regional Directorate of the National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority, based on the law on veterinary service, has quarantined the farm and carried out the disinfection and burial of birds.
Also, the National Food Authority has set up a special inspection body of the regional directorate of Fier Region, to monitor and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
In cooperation with local structures, all measures have been taken to prevent the entry of other birds in the quarantined area.
