INTERCEPTIONS/ Conversations of the Albania-Greece group of traffickers: Look

Greek police on Monday arrested 14 people accused of being members of a network that organized the smuggling of irregular foreign migrants from Greek territory to Albania. According to Greek police sources, among those arrested are 7 policemen investigated by the Internal Affairs Service of the Police in Northern Greece. Greek police units are conducting house searches in various cities, mainly in Follorin and Kostur, in the presence of prosecutors, to identify evidence related to the charges against the arrested.

It seems that the criminal organization that operated in Kapshtica and was recently dismantled by the Internal Affairs Service of the Republic of Greece has maintained cooperation with other criminal groups active in the trafficking of immigrants.

As it resulted from the long-term investigation of the Police, the organization is estimated to be a "link" in a wider chain of trafficking from Albania, since during the investigations by the authorities, there was information from the Police Department of the State Airport of Thessaloniki about the attempt to left the country of foreign citizens of Albania, who have entered the Greek territory in the above manner, through the border station of Kapshtica..

The structure of the organization

Canteen and "leader"

The members of the criminal organization had as their base a canteen which belongs to the "brain" of the group and is located next to the Border Station of Kristallopigi. The canteen in question is almost adjacent to the Passport Control Department of Kristallopiggia, which enabled the team members to have direct visual contact with persons wishing to enter or exit Greece and vice versa.

In this area was the "vice president" of the organization, an employee of a private company that provided telecommunication services, who together with the "leader" met the taxi drivers who cooperated with the group. The leaders, after receiving the passports from the immigrants in question, undertook their transport and delivery, mainly to the "leader" of the group or the "vice president".

They kept them in the canteen for a short time and then handed them over to the cooperating police officers so that the latter could proceed with their false identification by affixing entry-exit stamps.

Members of the organization then took the passports and distributed them to those interested for a fee, of course. In fact, among the immigrants who were "served" were also persons against whom the entry ban was in effect, for example, for their involvement in drug trafficking cases.

For the "service", the criminal organization collected at least 350 euros from each interested immigrant, an amount that sometimes increased depending on the specifics of each case. The amount of money in question was usually taken from taxi drivers who were members of the group.

Conversations and code names

Listed below are indicative conversations that reflect the communication of members of the criminal organization.

A taxi driver, referring to the illegal activity of the "leader" of the group, says in the third person: "Hey, money passes me by every day", "He can make about 500 euros a day, dude...".

The "deputy director" of the organization referring to a third person for a claim for an amount of 400 euros: "No, I told you, I told you from the beginning I want 200, the other one asks for 200... me every day... my mind in turn".

One of the policemen involved continues to "recommend" the change of passport data to a foreigner in order to issue a new (passport), thereby gaining entry into the country.

Immigrant : We have a case that has been fined for three years. If he has a new passport, can he enter?

Policeman : No, he has to change the facts.

Immigrant : Should I change details?

Policeman : Yes, yes, the date of birth must be changed.

Immigrant : Only this?

Police : And no letter in the name, so.

Illegal taxi drivers referring to the "leader" and a cooperating taxi driver say: "He told me to delete the conversations we have together. Why what are we talking about? "Not because they're monitoring the phones..." You understand how scared they are."

One of the partner-employees of the police is checking the electronic system of EL.AS. for the existence of the administrative measure against an Albanian citizen and organizes a personal meeting with the "vice president" of the group to inform him about the result of this, writes Abc .

Policeman : Tell me the exact date.

" Deputy Chief ": Wait. Seven nine, one thousand nine hundred and ninety eight (7/9/1998).

Policeman : No, it's clean, there's nothing. Wait.

" Deputy Chief ": There is no fine?

Policeman : Wait a minute so I can see it too. No, wait, there's something, yes, yes, sit down. Sit down, I'll come and tell you, wait.

At the same time, for their own safety, members of the organization used code terminology. More specifically, passports were called "red" or "cherry" (referring to the color of Albanian passports), "that", "paper", "cardboard", "these", while money was called "brown".

The driver's conversation with his daughter

It is worth noting that one of the policemen involved had the role of "chiliadoro". Specifically, another police officer involved asked his colleague to monitor the area during the fake passport authentication act to prevent anyone unknown from entering the scene.

The following conversation is typical:

Policeman : Shut up, shut up. ... Look left and right, let no one come, let no one come.

Police officer "Chiliadora" : Run away?

Police : No, look left and right, I'm telling you, don't let anyone come, don't let anyone come and...

At the same time, the conversation that an involved taxi driver had with his daughter is also indicative, in which he said the following:

Taxi driver : I got 400 from Hasan. 150 I gave him.. "take it and seal it yourself". 250 for me… Five passports done, this.. not four passports this month… I went to give the passport inside the canteen…

Driver's daughter : Ah. Does he keep it for you in the canteen?

Taxi driver : I mean, he keeps it.. He gets 150 euros for each passport.

The driver's daughter : Ah, does he follow when he gets the chance, when he goes to show her the coffee?

Taxi driver : Stamp it, I don't stamp it... Bring it to me from there.
