The salary increase is only the first step to curb the exodus of doctors to Germany. The University of Medicine has drawn up a package of proposals to keep them in place.

Preventive policies will be initiated by Medical students. Before entering the faculty, they will sign a contract to work for at least three years in Albania.

They will receive their Medical degree only after completing this obligation. Students who do not accept these conditions will pay the same tuition fee as in other countries, approximately 18 thousand dollars.

As for doctors in the system, the salary increase will be accompanied by other benefits. Employees of the public health system will be supported with soft loans. Also, there will be investments in hospitals and health centers to improve the working conditions of doctors.

Since 2016, the University of Medicine reports over 1,000 doctors left Albania, 20% of whom were experienced and in various specialties.

Meanwhile, the specialization competition has started at the Faculty of Medicine. General practitioners compete for 325 quotas in various specialties where the most sought after are cardiology, paediatrics, dermatology, plastic surgery and resuscitation anesthesia/A2
