The Dibra Court has today decided to temporarily admit 26-year-old HS to a psychiatric hospital, who on August 2 stabbed his mother in the village of Maqellarë.

The serious incident occurred in their family home and was followed by the immediate arrest of the young man.

According to the official police statement, the conflict between the son and the mother had started for weak motives, ending tragically with the use of a cutting tool. The injured woman, a 50-year-old woman with the initials NS, was stabbed seven times and is currently in the Trauma Hospital in Tirana, under the intensive care of doctors, in a stabilized but still serious condition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that HS had been showing pronounced signs of depression for some time, which influenced today's court decision not to keep him in custody, but to place him in compulsory psychiatric treatment. The young man is charged with "intentional serious injury".

The incident remains under investigation, while psychiatric experts are expected to determine the perpetrator's full mental state and his ability to stand trial. If mental incapacity is determined, the case may receive different legal treatment.
