Klajdi Merkaj, the most trusted person of the Çopja brothers, has been extradited from Italy to Albania on behalf of the Special Prosecution Office.
Merkaj was initially detained in Rome on October 16 of this year, where immediately after the arrest, "Interpol Tirana" initiated extradition procedures.
The Criminal Court of Kosovo has imposed the security measure "Arrest in prison" on him, for the criminal offense "Laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity", committed in collaboration.
Klajdi Merkaj, according to communications on the "Sky" application, appears to have maintained close communication with his brothers in Dubai, Hajdar and Franc Çopja.
The latter on many occasions sent euros in wheeled suitcases from London and other European countries, while the recipient in Albania turned out to be Klajdi Merkaj.
This money was invested in the rents of the businesses that the organization had in Tirana, in the construction of residential complexes in Tirana, and in the purchase of land.
SPAK, up to this stage, has discovered that the company "Merkaj Invest" is registered in the name of Klajdi Merkaj. This property was established on February 10, 2022, with headquarters on "Papa Gjon Pali II" Street, and its activity is in the field of construction of all types, including construction for residential purposes.
Meanwhile, another property named "Merkaj 3" was initially opened in 2013 by Klajdi Merkaj. This company built the residential residence "Mandarine Drive" in the Lundra area of Tirana.
The company was originally opened by Klajdi, but in December 2017, he decided to sell the construction company to his twin brother, Endri Merkaj, for only 120 thousand old lekë. This contract was signed privately and not in front of a notary.
Also, SPAK is investigating the 3 Merkaj brothers over the investments they are making in the city of Saranda, as there are strong indications that they are investigating a hotel in this area.
Dozens of bank accounts and suspicious transactions have been put on scanner, which are currently being analyzed by SPAK.
