In the world's most powerful military fleet, an Albanian has been entrusted with an important task.

From June 27-25, Alban Dervishi is officially commander of the American amphibious ship "USS Pearl Harbor".

The US Navy has a tradition: the star on the right side of the chest that symbolizes the appointment as commander of the Pearl Harbor ship must be worn by the wife.

"Becoming commander of the USS Pearl Harbor is an honor and privilege that is based on duty to our country and responsibility to the hundreds of sailors who serve here in the Pacific," he said.

Dervish's career in the US Navy began at the age of 18.

His appointment was also welcomed by the American Embassy in Tirana: 

" The United States Embassy congratulates Alban Dervish on his new role as Commander of the USS Pearl Harbor! The official change of command ceremony took place in San Diego last week ," the American Embassy wrote on Facebook.

What is the USS Pearl Harbor?

The USS Pearl Harbor is named in honor of the American naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, which was attacked by Japan on December 7, 1941 – an event that brought the United States into World War II.

On the morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941, Japanese fighter aircraft launched a surprise attack on the American fleet anchored at Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii. The attack lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes and occurred in two air waves.

As a result, 2,403 Americans were killed (including civilians)
• 1,178 wounded
• 8 battleships were sunk, including:
• USS Arizona (exploded and completely sunk – about 1,177 deaths)
• USS Oklahoma, USS West Virginia, and others.
• 200 American aircraft were destroyed or severely damaged.
• Japan lost only about 29 aircraft and 5 pocket submarines.
